Leo and Mary Weeks first opened Leo Weeks Photographers in 1967 working out of their home. They moved it to its present location in 1968. Leo worked part time while Mary ran the studio with the help of a friend for the first several years. Virginia joined them a few years later helping in the retouching and finishing. Ruth was just a child when the studio was first opened. Leo retired from DuPont so that he could work full time in the growing studio. Leo and Mary loved this community. Mary was the first female President of the Chamber of Commerce in Port Neches and she was one of the founders of the “Pow Wow Festival” now called “Riverfest.” Most people knew them from watching them take photos on the sidelines at football games (they were the first). They started taking B&W at the games for the MidCounty Chronicle in the early 70's and then one night at a game Mary realized that she had some color film in her camera from a wedding so she went ahead and shot it knowing that it would take some thought on how to process it. ( Back then there was no such thing as 400 speed or 800 speed or 1600 speed film in color) They figured out how to over process the film and color action shots were born. The Kodak rep came by weekly and kept telling them that it couldn’t be done and took samples and wrote down exactly how they did it . . . soon after 400 speed color film came into being. There are many stories that we could tell you about Mary and Leo but many you already know if you were brought up in this community.
Leo Weeks Photographers is now owned and operated by Ruth Weeks Todd and Virginia Weeks Luna, daughters of Leo and Mary Weeks. We are now completely Digital using only the best equipment and technology, just as we did with film.
At Leo Weeks Photographers, we've been helping people find the look that's right for them for almost 40 years. Ruth found her calling as a Photographer more than 20 years ago. She has a BS in Music Education. After receiving her degree she realized that photography was in her blood and that she had been training all of her life for this work. She works to develop a perfect image for your portrait whether in our studio or on location. We strive to create photographs that you and your family will cherish forever. Our motto has always been Today’s Pleasures . . . Tomorrows’ Treasures.
We are still photographing all of the PNG and Nederland varsity football games and other sports as well. This year we have added CavOILcade to our list of activities such as the Miss Port Neches Pageant, Westernaire Buttons, Silsbee Little League, FUMC Mothers’Day out, Beaumont Civic Ballet Company Photos and all of PNG High School sports, dances and Seniors.
